About the artwork

Ask Yourself Whatever You Want is designed for viewers who want Persian art to feel both rooted and current. The use of expressive figurative imagery together with flowing Persian calligraphy creates a layered composition that can be appreciated from across the room and discovered again at close range.

Poetry and Meaning

Ask Yourself Whatever You Want quotes a classical Persian quatrain: nothing in the world exists outside of you; whatever you are searching for, seek it within yourself — because you are what you seek. Like many Persian quatrains, it “wanders” between collections: it appears in Rumi's Divan-e Shams (Rubai 1759) and also among the quatrains of Baba Afzal Kashani and Najm al-Din Razi. The portrait gives the words a human face.

از خود بطلب هر آنچه خواهی که تویی

English translation:
Seek from within whatever you desire — for you are it.

Designed for Meaningful Spaces

Ask Yourself Whatever You Want is well suited to a living area, studio, workspace, hallway, or quiet reflection space. Its balanced contemporary palette works with contemporary rooms as well as spaces with traditional Persian accents, and its cultural focus makes it a thoughtful gift for a wedding, housewarming, Nowruz, birthday, or anyone connected to Persian art.
