About the artwork

Delbar turns a playful quatrain on the beloved and the heart into contemporary Persian wall art. Through flowing Persian calligraphy, the piece creates visual movement while preserving the cultural character at the center of the design.

Poetry and Meaning

Delbar carries a famously playful Persian quatrain that turns on one word: delbar means “beloved,” while del bar means “the heart is with.” O beloved, do not be heartless with us; one beloved is better than two hundred hearts — now we have neither heart nor beloved, so send back one or the other. The quatrain is traditionally attributed to the Sufi master Abu Sa'id Abu'l-Khayr. The calligraphy itself carries the rhythm of the words.

ای دلبر ما مباش بی دل بر ما
یک دلبر ما به که دو صد دل بر ما
نه دل بر ما نه دلبر اندر بر ما

English translation:
O our beloved, do not be heartless toward us;
one beloved with us is worth more than two hundred hearts.
Now we have neither heart nor beloved beside us —
send us back either our heart or our beloved.

Designed for Meaningful Spaces

Delbar is well suited to an entryway, reading corner, office, bedroom, or focused feature wall. Its soft pastel palette works with neutral, warm, and carefully layered interiors, and its cultural focus makes it a thoughtful gift for a wedding, housewarming, Nowruz, birthday, or anyone connected to Persian art.
