About the artwork

Hich turns the meaning of hich in Iranian art into contemporary Persian wall art. Through expressive figurative imagery together with flowing Persian calligraphy, the piece creates visual movement while preserving the cultural character at the center of the design.

Inscription and Meaning

Hich explores hich — “nothing” — one of the most powerful motifs in modern Iranian art, made famous by Parviz Tanavoli's Heech sculptures. The text on the canvas reminds us that in art, hich does not always mean emptiness, decay or absurdity; sometimes it is a symbol of thirst and longing. The portrait gives the words a human face.

هیچ در هنر، همیشه به معنای نیستی، تباهی و پوچی نیست، بلکه گاهی نمادی از عطش و تمنا به شمار میرود.

English translation:
In art, “nothing” does not always mean nonexistence, ruin or emptiness; sometimes it stands for thirst and longing.

Designed for Meaningful Spaces

Hich is well suited to a living area, studio, workspace, hallway, or quiet reflection space. Its turquoise palette works with contemporary rooms as well as spaces with traditional Persian accents, and its cultural focus makes it a thoughtful gift for a wedding, housewarming, Nowruz, birthday, or anyone connected to Persian art.
