About the artwork

In Hich, Persian visual culture is interpreted through expressive figurative imagery together with flowing Persian calligraphy. The composition balances monochrome palette, texture, and negative space to create a contemporary canvas with a clear focal point and a lasting emotional presence.

Poetry and Meaning

Hich quotes the opening of Saadi's Ghazal 412: “the friend I have, the beloved only I know” — sweet of speech and, alas, far from reach. In the next couplet Saadi wishes fortune would let him sit beside that slender, cypress-like beauty and scatter flowers over it. The portrait gives the words a human face.

آن دوست که من دارم وان یار که من دانم
شیرین دهنی دارد دور از لب و دندانم
بخت این نکند با من کان شاخ صنوبر را

English translation:
The friend I have, the beloved only I truly know,
has the sweetest lips — far from my own reach.
Fortune will not grant me this: to have that slender cypress
sit beside me, and to shower flowers over it. — Saadi, Ghazal 412

Designed for Meaningful Spaces

Hich is well suited to a living area, studio, workspace, hallway, or quiet reflection space. Its monochrome palette works with contemporary rooms as well as spaces with traditional Persian accents, and its cultural focus makes it a thoughtful gift for a wedding, housewarming, Nowruz, birthday, or anyone connected to Persian art.
