Dance Is My Desire — Pastel Dancer Persian Calligraphy Canvas

Dance Is My Desire turns Rumi's longing to dance freely at the heart of life into contemporary Persian wall art. Through a graceful sense of movement together with flowing Persian calligraphy, the piece creates visual movement while preserving the cultural character at the center of the design.

Poetry and Meaning

Dance Is My Desire is drawn from one of Rumi's most celebrated ghazals in the Divan-e Shams (Ghazal 441), the poem of longing that repeats “… is my desire.” With a cup of wine in one hand and the beloved's curl in the other, the poet wishes to dance openly in the middle of the arena — dance as release from limitation and fearless surrender to love. The dancing figure turns the words into movement.

یک دست جام باده و یک دست جعد یار
رقصی چنین میانه میدانم آرزوست

English translation:
With a cup of wine in one hand and the beloved's curl in the other,
to dance like this in the middle of the arena — that is my desire. — Rumi, Divan-e Shams, Ghazal 441

Designed for Meaningful Spaces

Dance Is My Desire is well suited to a home, office, hospitality setting, creative studio, or meaningful gift display. Its soft pastel palette works with calm interiors that benefit from a culturally meaningful focal point, and its cultural focus makes it a thoughtful gift for a wedding, housewarming, Nowruz, birthday, or anyone connected to Persian art.
