Poetry and Meaning

Eshgh-e To quotes a quatrain from Rumi's Divan-e Shams (Rubai 193), addressed to the saqi, the cupbearer of love: whatever happiness exists is yours, and every soul and heart that is drunk belongs to you. “Your love is dancing in our heads,” Rumi says — “keep clapping, for the hand is yours forever.” Persian tilework patterns frame the words in a familiar architectural language.

ای ساقی اگر سعادتی هست تراست
جانی و دلی و جان و دل مست تراست
اندر سر ما عشق تو پا میکوبد

English translation:
O cupbearer, whatever happiness there is belongs to you;
every soul and heart, every drunken soul and heart, is yours.
