My Coquettish Mistress — Hafez Turquoise Dancer Canvas

In My Coquettish Mistress, Persian visual culture is interpreted through a graceful sense of movement together with expressive figurative imagery. The composition balances turquoise palette, texture, and negative space to create a contemporary canvas with a clear focal point and a lasting emotional presence.

Poetry and Meaning

My Coquettish Mistress opens with the first couplets of Hafez's Ghazal 400. A tall, playful, enchanting beloved, he confesses, has cut short his long story of piety — and in the second couplet he asks his own heart: after all that age, devotion and learning, did you see what my love-struck eyes did to me? It is Hafez at his most wry and human. The dancing figure turns the words into movement.

بالابلند عشوه گر نقش باز من
کوتاه کرد قصه زهد دراز من
دیدی دلا که آخر پیری و زهد و علم

English translation:
My tall, coquettish, artful beloved
cut short the long tale of my piety.
Did you see, O heart, how in the end — after all my age, piety and learning —
my love-struck eyes undid me? — Hafez, Ghazal 400

Designed for Meaningful Spaces

My Coquettish Mistress is well suited to an entryway, reading corner, office, bedroom, or focused feature wall. Its turquoise palette works with neutral, warm, and carefully layered interiors, and its cultural focus makes it a thoughtful gift for a wedding, housewarming, Nowruz, birthday, or anyone connected to Persian art.
